Principal's Corner

Mrs. Colleen English is excited for another year leading Liberty Intermediate School and serving the students, staff, and families of LIS as Principal. Prior to joining the LIS Tigers, Mrs. English served as Assistant Principal for multiple years in the United Kingdom. While serving in these positions, Mrs. English was an active participant in the 2021 Cognia accreditation for DoDEA Europe West District where the district earned the System of Distinction Award. Mrs. English is the 2019 Europe West Teacher of the Year and has worked with Teacher Leaders throughout DoDEA, the Europe West District office, and Center for Instructional Leadership to create opportunities for improved teaching and learning for students through innovative ideas and implementing forward-thinking action plans.

Mrs. English joined DoDEA in 2003 as an elementary educator. Before becoming an administrator, Mrs. English taught fourth grade at Bitburg Elementary School in Germany. She then moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, and worked at inner-city, Title 1 schools for Clark County School District, teaching both third and fourth-grade classes. Upon returning to Germany, she worked in multiple roles throughout Bitburg and Spangdahlem Elementary Schools including teaching Primary Center, Combination classes, and for multiple years taught fifth-grade students. She has served as the Parent Teacher Student Association President and the Continuous School Improvement Chairperson in multiple school settings. At Lakenheath Elementary School she worked to organize and support events and initiatives for all stakeholders including School Advisory Committee (SAC) sessions, the school-wide Purple Up Picnic, and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).

Mrs. English’s degrees include a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, Master of Arts in Education with a focus on Curriculum and Instruction, and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership. As an Instructional Leader, her focus is on the whole child. Working with students, teachers, and families to build relationships is essential to success for all. Creating a positive culture grounded in teamwork and continuous learning is pivotal to creating productive schools!

Mrs. English understands that educating military-connected children is a privilege and an honor; working closely with families to support student learning is an essential part of her philosophy of successful education. Mrs. English is consistently in awe of the work of the United States Armed Forces and is grateful for the opportunity to create a positive, supportive, and engaging learning opportunity for all students!

May is National Speech-Language-Hearing Month - a time to recognize the importance of communication and to honor the professionals who make it possible for so many students to find their voice.
