RAF LAKENHEATH, England — Fourth- and fifth-grade students and their families recently gathered for Math Night at Liberty Intermediate School, an event designed to strengthen family involvement and support student learning in a fun, engaging way.

The evening featured four rotating stations that gave families the opportunity to experience math through both technology-based and hands-on activities. One station showcased technology-based math games, including Blooket, where students practiced skills while enjoying friendly competition.

Another rotation focused on non-technology math games, such as Multiplication Battleship and Fraction Dominoes, which demonstrated how math practice can happen without screens. Carter, from Mr. Lewis’s class, shared that he really liked the event, especially playing Multiplication Battleship, which helped make learning multiplication more enjoyable because he competed against his father.

“The night was really fun,” Carter said.

Students also participated in Multiplication Bingo, a high-energy activity that reinforced multiplication facts in a motivating way. “The night was super fun, and the bingo prizes were great,” said Langley, highlighting the excitement students felt throughout the evening.

Students and parents also rotated through a brief technology talk, where they received tips on limiting screen time at home and learned about alternative activities families can use to support learning.

Events like Math Night support the Department of Defense Education Activity’s Blueprint for Continuous Improvement by strengthening partnerships between schools and families while reinforcing academic excellence. By creating opportunities for collaborative learning experiences, Liberty Intermediate School continues to support student success both inside and outside the classroom.

Math Night was a successful and positive experience that brought families together, highlighted engaging ways to practice math, and reinforced the importance of learning both at school and at home. The enthusiasm from students and families reflected the strong sense of community at Liberty Intermediate School.
